Zobler's @The Ned: London's New Yorker Breakfast

Updated: Dec 16, 2019

New York has arrived in the City of London, for breakfast. Zobler’s is the Deli & Diner situated on the ground-floor of London's latest bourgeoisie hotspot, The Ned. Serving up a variety of delectable Jewish-inspired deli classics including egg, smoked fish and smoked meat bagels and sandwiches, Zobler's delivers on satisfying portion size, alluring variety, and luscious flavours.

Standing in the doorway of The Ned felt like travelling back to a far more glitzy time, it's the kind of joint you want to swagger into donning a smoking jacket and cravat or feathered head-piece. Everlasting ceilings and grandiose archways, brass light fixtures, more marble than you can shake a stick at and plush upholstery as far as the eye can see. Through one exceptionally welcoming and grand archway to the right, I find myself standing at Zobler's. An exceedingly friendly face greets me and promptly shown to my table.

Enough on the stunning ambience let’s get to the food! A hungry man’s breakfast would have been a befitting title based on the generous portion size. However, this doesn’t quite capture the elegance of the whole affair. You see, the refinement of the dishes comes as a pleasant surprise when you think about the style of the menu. It’s all deli-inspired, and so you couldn’t be mad at a bit of cream cheese slapped onto a bagel and flung onto a plate. Zobler's however, takes these principles and hones them. Combining flair and excellent presentation, making each dish an experience.

I went for the Full English done their way. It included eggs, pastrami bacon, beef frankfurters, latkes, mushroom, tomatoes, and beans cholent with challah toast. A parade of breakfast comfort food, the dish combined all your most crucial breakfast elements but with that Jewish deli twist. I washed it down with a Zobler's iced tea and marvelled at how full I felt having made it through perhaps three-quarters of the meal.

I would recommend trying the full English and a classic salmon bagel for which they've got a couple of options. Zobler's is the perfect breakfast, brunch and lunch spot, the kind of place you can guarantee a hearty feast, enough snazz to secure an enviable Insta snap and an inviting and relaxed enough environment to let loose and have a few drinks.
