Dubai-based artist Aljoud Lootah has designed a beautifully warm-hued furniture collection. Using copper and rose gold, the electroplated furniture and lighting items are inspired by the “areesh” structures, typically found in the United Arab Emirates.
This style of architecture is used for summer houses as it features prominent gaps and spaces within walls to enable ventilation. These “areesh” structures are made using dried palm fronds which are linked by ropes. They help to relieve the heat from direct sunlight and protect against aggressive winds. The items in Lottah's AlAreesh series mimic the traditional UAE structures by incorporating vertical lines and refracting light. The collection includes a screen, stool, coffee table, and a table lamp.
