Sam Winston's 'Birthday'

The mysteries surrounding life and death have fascinated creative communities for centuries. Sam Winston is the latest in a long line of artists to look at the beginning and the end with wonder and attempt to translate this abstract existential experience into a meaningful artwork. The piece entitled ' Birthday' features a mass of tiny circles each one dedicated to a life drawn by Sam himself or a visitor of the exhibition. This interactive element encourages visitors to contribute to the piece by drawing circles alongside Winston to remember their loved ones. People are also able to submit requests via email. The interactive community aspect underlines the concept of humanity and togetherness a theme so closely linked to life and death. The piece was exhibited from 14th-24th of May in Bristol as a part of Mayfest.
