Tokyo is known for it's pioneering spirit of artistry and creative fashion and this season’s collections are no exception to the rule. This culturally rich fashion climate provides ample source material for spotting new and interesting trends. We've selected some key themes that we can see developing into powerful movements.
Haphazard Chic at Mikio Sakabe
Think art student meets rag doll chic. This trend is all about over layering, clashing patterns and oversized everything. It has the care free drama that looks great on the catwalk but does not translate so well in reality so expect to see a more pared down equivalent on the streets. Items like ripped and worn fabrics, print clashing tops and trousers and paint splattered/graffiti embellished footwear.
Masculine Normcore at Ujoh
This trend is geared towards the function focused woman who is channelling some smart themes but wants to maintain a casual effortless aesthetic. Practicality is the name of the game and it is all about loose layers, flats, comfortable fabrics and dressed down tailoring.
Sheer Layering
Channelling all that is ethereal and airy, the sheer layering trend adds illusory shape and volume to create more interesting silhouettes. This trend is made up of various reinterpretations of classic forms, for example adding peplums and emphasised collars or voluminous skirting.
