The way that we interact with our cars is changing. Audi, Mercedes, Nissan and Toyota are only a few manufacturers that have created an interactive app to compliment their manuals. Instead of relying on the traditional, hardcopy manual, car manufacturers have begun using augmented reality to create an alternative which allows users to directly interact with their vehicle.

Audi’s A3 eKurzinfo app is an example of such innovation, and one of the most successful, driving a completely unique experience for customers. Audi first released the app in 2013, and they are now providing the app with the A3 model. The interactive apps provide instantaneous information for the user. Designed for both the iphone and the ipad the app uses technology which overlays information on the image that the camera is providing, allowing the app to comment on objects viewed through the camera. Created by German AR Company Metaoi the app, when pointed at any part of the car, labels the car parts and provides the relevant information associated with it. Simply point your camera at an Audi- vision logo, and you can interact with that piece of technology. This is particularly helpful when looking under the hood of the car at the inner workings and finding specific parts. Re-inventing the manual Audi allows you to discover more exclusive content, as well as being able to locate the closest Audi centre. The app is now available in the UK from iTunes, in English, Japanese and German for free. It is available on both iOS and android devices. Users won’t have to manually update the app as they plan to push out updates. This unique way of discovering your car allows users to finally work out what that strange light flickering on the dashboard means, and allows questions to be answered in a few seconds. Audi’s new tool certainly compliments their exciting philosophy: ‘progress through technology’.
