Often our daily shower at home isn’t as steamy as the scenes that appear in films, but artist Alyssa Monks captures the beauty of bathing and the trickling water with her hyperrealistic paintings. The level of detail makes the artwork look almost like photographs, with Monks depicting the movements of water as it glides over skin and hair.
The New Jersey-based artist portrays her fascination with the human body, explaining that by using water she is able to “distort the body in shallow painted places”. Her paintings of people bathing give a glimpse into private lives, exposing the body at its most vulnerable yet intimate.
