Based on the game ‘Globosome, Path of the Swarm’, this multi-award winning film, written and directed by Sascha Geddert, begins on an Earth-like planet that becomes populated by small, black, spherical creatures.
In a poignant metaphor for the human race, and the destruction that we are wreaking on our planet’s environment, the narrative follows these creatures as they begin to transform the world around them. As they evolve the creatures work together to consume vegetation and construct structures similar to our own cities. However, in a probable foreshadowing of our own demise, the world cannot cope with the increasing population, and the creatures fall to the ground as their creations tumble around them. In a world where we are rapidly running out of resources, this fate may be just over the horizon for us. Like the Globosomes, the human race seems ultimately doomed to destroy itself though its own development. The film does not fully explore what will happen after human extinction. Perhaps another variety of organism will evolve, but we cannot know if they will make the same mistake, and continue the cycle of destruction. We can only hope that, if another dominant species does occur, they will respect the Earth better than ourselves.
