Janet Jackson to release first album in 7 years this Autumn

The influential R&B singer, a spiritual godmother to recent acts like Tinashe and FKA twigs, will return with her first album in seven years and an accompanying world tour this fall.
“Discipline,” her previous studio release, came out in 2008; disappointing sales led to a split with her label at the time, Island Def Jam.
Ms. Jackson announced Wednesday that the new album, not yet titled, would be released on her own label, Rhythm Nation Records, a partnership with BMG. “With Rhythm Nation, Janet Jackson becomes arguably the first female African-American recording artist to form her own record label,” the company said in a statement. “At Rhythm Nation, Janet plans to offer a home to both new and established recording artists.”
