Atsuko Goto

While her color palette is subdued, the dreamlike work of Atsuko Goto is quite powerful and very beautiful.

Apparently, her pigments are made from semi-precious Lapis-lazuli and gum arabic, which gives them their unique color and feel. The finely rendered paintings depict figures engulfed in hair, birds, flowers, and a lot of butterflies. While there is an undeniable spookiness to her work, it also appears to highlight the inseparable relationship between humans and nature. Very nice work and I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more of Goto in the future.
