LCM SS16 saw a range of progressive collections that embody the thriving nature of what is currently British Fashion's most exciting sector. Menswear is going through a period of significant change and we can see designers pushing boundaries to create more interesting and engaging collections for the constantly developing and changing male consumer.
The Belstaff collection stood out for us. Aside from the incredible presentation, set at Old Billingsgate with clear views of Tower Bridge and the Shard, incredible Morroccan food, vintage Land Rovers, motorbikes and a gorgeous crowd of fashion glitteratti, the collection was both directional and exciting.
The collection was inspired by desert exploration and sand filled the presentation space. This lines up perfectly with our 'Naturalism' trend featured in our latest issue, which discusses the creative sector's various movements towards Nature as a source of inspiration and influence. We also spotted some prints and patterns which are key themes for this season. The rich, graphic prints were present in a few pieces and I felt this stands as a challenge for typical menswear which tends to steer more towards a classic and palatable check or stripe. The use of a more edgy and abstract print speaks of Belstaff's desire to be more at the forefront of progressive menswear and solidifes the brand's position, not just as a leading luxury retailer but as a creative powerhouse and key industry influencer also.
